Kanji 31 - 32

Think I'll start a bit of a family theme for the next few days. I'm always mixing up elder brother with elder sister, there must be a good way of remembering them - please email if you think of one!

Anyways, I'll start with brother:-

Elder brother
お兄さん /
お:にい:さん (respect)
あに (humble)

おとうと (humble)
Younger brother

I haven't bothered with the honorific version of 弟 as it simply involves sticking さん on the end. Besides, who wants to give the little shits any respect?!?

Being completely sexist here, which you know I'm not (no, really I'm not), men come before women. So.... お兄さん is older brother and お姉さん is older sister - 'ni' comes before 'ne' in the Japanese syllabary. Same with younger brother and younger sister. It kinda falls apart after that, but hey nothings perfect.

Makes sense Dave, I was working on the Latin alphabet, where e comes before i... obviously you're on a higher level, thinking in Japanese!!
